Why Bocce?

For Every Age

Bocce is one of the few games the whole family plays together — grandparents, kids, and everyone in between. No athletic ability required, just good company and a competitive spirit.

Built for Entertaining

A bocce court is a natural gathering spot. It gives guests something to do and keeps the energy going all evening — whether it's a casual dinner party or a full backyard tournament.

Adds Real Property Value

A well-built bocce court is a premium outdoor feature that adds beauty and appeal to your property. It photographs well, shows well, and stands out in Marin's competitive real estate market.

One of Our Specialties

We've built more bocce courts in Marin than we can count. We know what plays well, what holds up over time, and what looks great in a Marin backyard — and we bring all of that to every project.

The Craft

Built to Play True, Look Beautiful

A great bocce court starts with a properly compacted base and a perfectly level surface. We engineer the foundation so the playing surface stays flat and consistent season after season — no ruts, no soft spots, no surprises after a wet winter.

Border material, surface finish, and court dimensions are all chosen with you so the finished court fits your yard and your style — whether that's rustic timber borders with crushed shell or clean concrete edges with decomposed granite.

We've built bocce courts alongside patios, putting greens, and sport courts throughout Marin. It's one of the most versatile outdoor features we build — and one of the most used.

Common Questions

How much space does a bocce court need?

A regulation bocce court is 13×91 ft, but most backyard courts are 10×60 ft or smaller — and they play just as well. We'll design one that fits your space perfectly without sacrificing the experience.

What surface material is best?

Crushed oyster shell is the most traditional and plays beautifully — it's what you'll find at Italian restaurants and wine country estates throughout Marin. Decomposed granite is a popular, slightly firmer alternative. We'll walk you through the options and help you choose based on your yard, budget, and style.

How long does installation take?

Most bocce courts are completed in 1–2 days. Larger courts or those with custom stone borders, lighting, or significant grading may take a day or two longer.

Do you build the borders too?

Yes — we handle the full build: excavation, base compaction, drainage, surface material, and borders. Timber, concrete, and stone options are all available. Everything is included in your estimate.

Does the court require much maintenance?

Very little. Occasional raking to level the surface and adding a bit of material every few years is all it takes. There's no mowing, no watering, and no seasonal maintenance cycle.

Can a bocce court be built on a slope?

A level playing surface is essential for bocce, so we grade and engineer the base to be flat regardless of the surrounding terrain. We'll assess your yard during the free site visit and let you know the best approach.

Can I add lighting to play at night?

Absolutely — LED court lighting is one of our most popular add-ons. Evening bocce with good lighting and a glass of wine is hard to beat. We design lighting to be functional without being harsh or spilling onto neighboring properties.

Will it look good in my yard?

That's always the goal. We design the court to complement your existing outdoor space — matching border materials to your patio, blending the surface color with your landscaping, and sizing it so it feels intentional, not dropped in.
